This website features a collection of 195 digital images of Afghanistan life taken by photographer Harrison Forman in 1969, several years before the civil unrest of the 1970's and 1980's, the Soviet invasion and the Taliban rule. These photographs portray the daily life of the Afghan people, the beauty of the land as well as historic sites, including the great Buddhas of Bamiyan, which were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. The life and culture of Afghanistan in the 1960's is categorized into six major areas:

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) was fascinated by night and twilight, as reflected by natural light and gaslight in both landscapes and interior scenes. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has created an exhibit of his nighttime and twilight paintings and drawings representing a cross section of the artist's career, including The Starry Night over the Rhône and The Starry Night. This online exhibit includes audio commentary as well as text for his sketches included in letters, paintings and drawings. An interactive map allows access to information about Van Gogh's life and family. Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader are required.
